Definition
What is silent sales in a hotel?
Silent sales means selling hotel services without a salesperson. The guest scans a QR code in the room or taps a screen in the lobby, sees the offer in their language, orders and pays. Nobody pitches anything out loud, yet the hotel sells more.
In the traditional model, ancillary sales depend on a receptionist, a waiter or a phone call the guest has to make. Most guests never do it: they do not want to bother anyone, do not speak the language, do not know what is available, or feel like it at 11 pm when nobody answers. Silent sales removes those barriers and lets guests buy the moment the need appears.
Why it works
Four principles of silent sales
- 1
The offer is always at hand
A QR code in the room and a screen in the lobby show the full offer 24/7. The guest does not ask whether something is possible, they just pick.
- 2
No pressure
Nobody is pushing. Guests browse at their own pace, so they are more willing to add a massage, a dinner or a late checkout.
- 3
The guest’s own language
Menus, descriptions and payment in the guest’s language. The language barrier that blocks a phone order disappears.
- 4
Ordering at the moment of need
The urge for dinner in the room comes in the evening, not at check-in. An offer that is always available catches that moment.
Where the revenue comes from
What guests order on their own
- Room service, bar and restaurant to the room
- Spa treatments and massages
- Late checkout and early check-in
- Minibar and hotel shop
- Rentals: bikes, equipment, games
- Transfer, taxi, parking
- Partner attractions and tickets
Each of these is a small amount. Multiplied by the number of rooms, occupancy and days in a month it becomes revenue that is usually lost today.
How we calculate
Where the calculator numbers come from
The calculator multiplies the number of rooms by occupancy and days in a month, then by the share of guests who place an order and the average order value for the selected outlets. The ratios come from hotels using hotelspot and are deliberately conservative. We prepare an exact estimate for your property during a demo.
