Revenue management system (RMS)
A revenue management system (RMS) is software that uses booking data, demand forecasts and competitor rates to recommend or automatically set a hotel’s room rates.

An RMS automates much of a revenue manager’s work: it analyses booking pace, historical demand, local events and competitor pricing, then suggests rates for each day and room type. In automatic mode it pushes rates to the PMS and channel manager itself.
How it works in practice
Example: a 120-room hotel in Liverpool used to change rates by hand once a week. With an RMS, rates update daily: when bookings pick up ahead of a big match or concert, the system raises rates on the most popular room types first. The revenue manager approves recommendations or sets rules and limits.
How technology helps
An RMS works with the PMS and channel manager. hotelspot is not an RMS; it focuses on selling extras during the stay in the G-commerce Manager and connects to the hotel’s PMS through integrations.
Frequently asked questions
- What does a hotel RMS do?
- It forecasts demand and recommends or sets room rates and restrictions, using booking data and competitor prices.
- Does an RMS replace a revenue manager?
- Not fully. The system calculates and recommends, while a person sets strategy, approves decisions and reacts to things the data cannot predict.
