In a smart hotel guests do not need to phone reception to order breakfast to the room, check the spa opening hours or report that the air conditioning is not working. They do it from their phone or a screen in the lobby, and the request goes straight to the person who will deal with it. A smart hotel is not a hotel without people: technology takes over repetitive questions and simple orders so staff have more time for guests.
How it works in practice
Example: an 80-room hotel in Bristol. Before the change, the front desk took dozens of evening calls about the Wi-Fi password, breakfast times, towels and taxis. After launching a guest app, most of that information is behind a QR code in the room, and orders for room service, spa treatments or transfers arrive in a panel with online payment in pounds.
How technology helps
With hotelspot, three parts of a smart hotel work together: the Guest App opens in the phone browser from a QR code, with no download; the AI Concierge answers guests 24/7 in 34 languages; and the Digital Pod is a 24 or 32 inch touch screen in the lobby where guests can also check themselves in.
