Room service
Room service is a hotel service that lets guests order food and drinks to their room, delivered by hotel staff within set hours.

Room service is part of the hotel’s food and beverage (F&B) operation. The in-room dining menu is usually shorter than the restaurant menu and prices are higher, often with a tray charge. Many UK hotels offer it only until late evening, with a limited night menu afterwards.
How it works in practice
Example: a guest at a business hotel in Birmingham gets back at 9.30 pm and wants dinner in the room. The menu is in a folder in the drawer and the phone to reception rings out. Some guests give up and order from a delivery app, and the hotel loses a sale of perhaps £25 to £40.
What drives room service sales:
- whether guests know it exists and can see the menu easily,
- how simple it is to order,
- whether they can pay straight away and know how long it will take.
How technology helps
With hotelspot the room service menu sits in the guest app behind a QR code in the room, in the language of the guest’s phone. Guests order and pay online, and the order goes straight to the kitchen display (KDS) or the hotelspot staff app. The team updates the status and the guest can follow it.
